Capital Referendum | November 5, 2024

Union Grove Union High School is committed to providing a well-rounded educational environment for all its students. With the safety of our students in mind, the Board of Education and administrative team have decided to put a referendum question on the ballot to provide a safe, secure, and accessible campus. On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, our community will vote on a proposed referendum question:

A $34.9 million capital referendum to address facility needs to improve safety, security, ADA accessibility, increase tech ed spaces and classrooms, connect the agricultural building to the main building, parking, and athletics and site improvements.

Enhancing our Building and Facilities

Our buildings have been well maintained over the years. However, 36 personal injuries due to vehicular accidents and 210 vehicular accidents have resulted in property damage in the immediate vicinity of Union Grove High School since 2018. Over the years, the need for secure entrances has significantly increased due to growing concerns about student safety and the importance of controlling access to school premises. The growing demand for technical education has highlighted the necessity of expanding specialized learning spaces and converting unused areas into functional classrooms to better support students’ career readiness and hands-on learning experiences. Additionally, some existing spaces are not ADA-friendly, underscoring the urgency to upgrade facilities to ensure accessibility and inclusivity for all students and staff.

Our focus is on three key areas:

  • Safety & Security

  • ADA, Accessibility, and Inclusivity

  • Increasing Classroom Spaces

Tax Impact

The property tax impact of the capital referendum would be $54 per every $100,000 of assessed fair market property value per year. For example, a home valued at $300,000 would see a property tax impact of $162 per year (or $13.50 per month), starting in the 2025-2026 school year.
